WiW: 12.31 - Should Old Dresses Be Forgot?

Happy New Year's Eve!!!

I thought about a more sparkly get up for work today, but it is going to be quite busy! The print on this dress reminds me of fireworks, anyway!!!

I feel like I can fit into this sheath a lot better this time around since I have been doing more weight training, so I suppose I am doin something right (or the dress is stretching on the hanger)!

Have a very lovely new year of health and happiness, dear YLF ladies!!

The Closet Breakdown

I just noticed something rather strange - I think I have my closet proportioned as follows with hangers - unintentionally!

I bought a few packages of velvet hangers, and it just so happened to be proportioned like this:

  • 50 black hangers = year-round work dresses
  • 25 blue hangers w/ hooks = blouses (hooks for skirts)
  • 25 green hangers w/ hooks = casual and date dresses
  • 25 beige hangers w/ hooks = summer work dresses
  • 25 clear clips = skirts
  • 25 thicker plastic hangers = blazers, outerwear, etc.
That adds up to be 175 pieces! Yikes! I think I will try to keep these ratios because it has so far served me well, and I can one in and one out :) - I may add an additional 25 black hangers just to keep it 200 and easy to calculate! I have a bunch of t-shirts and jeans in a plastic tub.

And I'm thinking of starting a collection of how Anthropologie wears a lot of the pieces that I have - as inspiration on how to wear what I already have!

What are your proportions like in your closets?

2014 - Fashion Budget (aka being a grownup)

Bah, being a grown up is no fun, is it? :P I took a look at my closet today, and there's just way too much stuff in there - a lot of it accumulated over the last two or three years (aka post YLF). With all the style experimentation that occurs when you want to explore and find your own new style, I suppose it is understandable.

I find a lot of my purges are the "oh, but this is only $30!" type - and I get bitten with the sales bug a lot; so hopefully this budget (thank you, Mo for your inspiration) will help rein me in a little bit. I didn't think I could afford a nicer parka, but after getting frostbite this year x2 (very minor), the boy was like, I don't care, you need a better one! GRRRR. $700 later....

I think the other thing that helps is I don't feel like I have to "keep up" anymore at work - I have enough street cred built in right now that I'm not just one of the "faceless junior residents" - and I think I can afford to cruise and hone my personal style a little bit now, knowing that it is mostly work appropriate.

My style budget (#2) - I broke it down into different seasons. A lot of the things I need are replacements and repairs. My nude pumps were beyond repair x2 pairs; and now I really really am desperate for a replacement, but I am also pretty picky (you'll notice I want the Naturalizer Lennox ones) - and I also want a pair of pretty date night shoes. $2600 a year is definitely doable for me for enduring pieces - I probably spent about double this this year ... *ugh* I don't know how that happened.

I also want to have more "signature" pieces - the ones that when people see on other people, it becomes, "Oh, Lyn has that." - and I'm willing to invest in those things, as well as my versatile neutral (navy) which also happens to be boy's favourite colour.

New needs - a date night capsule. So far I just usually make do with things I wear to work, but I think I may want to expand on this. I don't think it will be fancy things (we usually go for burgers and pub fare, and we prefer to do that then really fancy things anyway), so it might mean t-shirts and jeans! But definitely a new part of my wardrobe, regardless!

Also - GOOD NEWS. MY KATE SPADE HAS ARRIVED. #3/4. I guess that call to customer service between crying/begging/yelling that my poor bag had been oversold ended up in a bag in the similar style but a different colour - I had initially ordered oxblood red, but they only had brown left (they would substitute, and is that okay?) - I guess it's okay (secretly overjoyed, I think this one will be more versatile!)

WiW 12.20 - Back On Track?

After yesterday's miss, I feel this outfit is keeping more on track of what is going on!! I think the elements trend toward more clean and simple - maybe that is the next stop on this fashion train???

Bonus: Bundled up for winter!!!

WiW 12.19 - Not Really Feeling It

Hmm, not really sure what is going on or if I just have the blues: I don't really think this look works that well - maybe too many elements?

I tried to ground it with a cardigan; like it slightly more.

Sigh.

WiW 12.18 - I See the Sea!!

Teehee! Had a bit of fun with a nautical touch today!!

This winter weather is making my skin into all sorts of a flaky mess, but one of my patients recommended Nivea! She had the most beautiful skin, so I made the swap yesterday!

And a new friend for the boy! (Pic 3)

WiW 12.17 - From +3 to -20 in one day!

Our weather has gone wonky again! Last week it was like a glass parking lot from all the snow melting!!

It sometimes is a bit nuts: but on the plus side, only five more shifts until FIVE CONTINUOUS DAYS OFF.

FIVE.

NO CALL.

My closet needs a purging so bad! Can't wait!
