A Tale of Mistaken Ethnicity, A YLF-er, A Commendation ... and Two Danier Jackets

Hi YLF!

Just popping in after a rather hazardous drive home (usually takes about 4 hrs and today it took more like 8 because of the road conditions) and just taking a break and enjoying everyone's company before I have to rush off to do something else ...

I gave a presentation at my conference, and although I didn't win, I did get a bunch of interesting questions afterwards about my topic! I think that the senior's staff recognition of the "Lyn brand" is more important than winning the big prize (which usually goes to senior residents anyway). One of the senior staff said it was too bad I didn't win - and I thought that was worth a lot more than actually winning, because he's a big shot and I admire his work a lot :)

I was recognized (second time?) from YLF - so that was an interesting experience. I -was- wearing my glasses dress which I suppose is rather memorable.

Also, someone asked if I was of First Nations heritage. They didn't seem to believe me very much when I said that I was Asian. :p

That being said, I still received an honorarium-like for my presentation and with the extra 40% off clearance at Danier, I ordered two jackets. The first (Willa textured leather and faux fur jacketI will call "Jon Snow" - as well, it reminds me of something you'd wear on the Wall (where I don't want to go, thanks). I wear my brown one a lot, and sometimes it's just not quite warm enough, so I hope that this one will fill in those days where it's too warm to wear a parka.

I also noticed that I need a jacket that is warm but I can go out for dinner comfortably with too - so I ordered #2 (Chelsea wool & quilted leather coat). The quilting reminds me of Natalie's quilted purse, but the cut of this jacket reminds me of one of my very elegant senior residents - so this jacket will be "Maryana" - the only concern I have is with the wool, so I will have to try. Sometimes wool makes me itchy.

And including shipping, I have hopefully invested my honorarium into something I love! I only went $1.59 over, I am sure I can afford that splurge ;)

At Store 2: Summer Work Dress Option 2

Another dress for your consideration; Likewise there are enough of a sleeve I can wear during the summer at work.

The pleather detail may push towards more of a winter/fall look, though. Hmm.

  • Dress: Andrew Marc via Winners
  • Tights: Claire's

At Store: Kate Inspired Summer Work Dress?

It reminds me of the Kate Spade Carolyn dress in a machine washable light poly knit.

It has sleeves enough for me to wear to work in the summer!

Any thoughts? :)

WiW: 03.19 - Colourful Dots and Plaid!

Another "casual day" sort of an outfit, so I did not put too much care into this one - please pardon the messy hair, my new shampoo isn't the greatest.

I think I enjoy the dots, this dress has some slippery straps that can be hard to deal with though!

I think the lighter colours are going to continue to be a challenge, but the dark colours is helping - I think!

WiW One Year Ago // What has changed?

Thanks to the YLF blog, I can easily see what I was wearing one year ago, and see where my style has evolved. I was hoping to draw on the collective YLF wisdom to help answer the questions:

  1. What has changed for the better?
  2. What are the still relevant themes?
  3. Where am I heading?
I have an idea about the answers for these, and I definitely see some themes that still persist, but I'm interested to hear what you dear ladies have to say, especially since I rely so much on your guidance as it is!
  1. Changes for the better - I appreciate the longer hemlines, and also the more tailored toppers. I also like thicker belts these days, and defining more of a waist has been important. I think better quality also shines through for my more recent attire.
  2. I still see some common themes - fit and flare being predominant, as well are toppers, and interesting necklaces. The Kate Spade influence had already been starting. I also love belts, tights and boots. And pony-tails.
  3. I think more grown-up patterns are needed with the fit-and-flare. I like the idea of solid skirts and more patterned tops (3) but hopefully, I can get more creative than that. I also like more grown-up glasses... and leather belts.
Thanks in advance :)

WiW: 03.17 - A Trip to the Hospital :(

Bah, I was having pretty severe abdominal pain all day and didn't think anything of it - yeah, doctor heal thyself. Luckily, caught it early enough.

No appendicitis, but similar to it (instead of the appendix swelling it is a fat tag on the side of the colon). Conservative management only! :)

Everyone remarked on how springy my skirt was, though! How cheerful! Lol, next time
I should go in my pjs to match the other patients!

Have a lovely day!

WiW: 03.15 - The Best Welcome Home...

Is your well stocked closet!!!

I am still finding myself amazed by the selection and choice in my closet. Living out of a suitcase has been too much for me, I think! I can't imagine having to do it all the time!

I am trying to squeeze in all my "with tights and boots" outfits because I am worried that the spring to come will be too nice soon. Last year, the end of April was "tightless". Ahh!!!

WiW: 03.13 - A miss, but I'll live (probably!)

Hahha. I just couldn't figure out why I disliked this outfit all day, then it hit me when I was reviewing these pictures: the mustard really clashes with the pink stripe.

I wish I had my navy or my grey cardigan instead. They are in the wash. Lol.

I will survive the rest of the day though... Albeit a little grumpy!
