Dream Analysis & Fashion - For Fun!

I rarely dream as a consequence of the way I sleep and my OCPD tendencies, but lately, I've been having a lot of dreams about clothes!

Most recently, I had a dream about my father stating how different my taste in clothes has evolved. Longer hemlines and lower pumps. And he was saying they made me walk differently - but that's expected because I'm a professional and I am growing up and he's very proud of me.

It's a strange dream to have - my dad doesn't care diddly squat about what I wear, and I'm pretty sure that he doesn't know a high pump from a low pump (or really what a pump is). And he's definitely not going to tell me he's proud of me (he's asian, come on) - although I know that he is.

But I got fabulous new pumps I am very excited to wear. Maybe that's where it is from.

Do you have dreams about fashion? What is your subconscious trying to tell you??

  • Dotty Pump: Le Chateau
  • Green Pointy Pump: Corso Como

Cool dream Lyn!  I'm sure he's proud of you.

I have lots of dreams about packing for international trips since joining YLF.  Basically, someone gives me a trip to a place I love (Spain, Italy, Greece, Australia (that would be a new one!)) and the only catch is that I have to be packed in 20 minutes.  I start working on capsules and wake up a wreck.  Anxiety meets fashion. :)  I am such a planner---there is not a spontaneous bone in my body.  My subcon is saying "Loosen up Baby--see the world!"

I dreamed that I met Amiable - I have no idea why. ;) I wished it was true!

So interesting - I have been having very vivid dreams lately - I wonder if it's something in the air?

I had a dream that I was wearing denim short-alls (short over-alls?).  I have no idea what that was all about.  Nothing against the look on the right person, but that person is not me.

Well, I think your subconscious has the right of it (!)

I do dream about fashion from time-to-time, but nothing lately... hehe

Um, sometimes I have that dream where I'm in a public place and suddenly realize I'm not wearing any pants...does that count?

Lol kidding. I did have that as a kid once in a while, though.

You mean, aside from the dreams where I suddenly realize I am back in junior high, and walking around in my underwear?   Oh.   Wait.   Aziraphale kind of said that already :)

You got me thinking hard - I have only ever had one fashion dream, in the late-1990's.   I was wearing a ballgown, in a perfect shade of red I have never been able to find in real life, and long silk gloves.   I was waltzing and cutting up with John Lennon, in the entrance of a brownstone, while a woman stood upstairs on the landing and laughed down at us.   One of the best dreams I have ever had :)

I think the dream was all about the unattainable.

And I dreamt about leopardluxe. Lol! Not even sure what the dream was about ... But she was looking fabulous :)

I had a vivid dream a couple months ago that I was going to Chicago to meet Angie and some other YLFers. I got in a cab, and there was my mother in the back seat. (IRL, my mom died over two years ago. She cared a lot about how she looked and, especially as a young woman, had some beautiful, quality clothing. Somehow I never gained confidence about my own style from her, even though I know she tried.)

Anyway, this dream occurred when I was deep into learning from YLF and trying things and feeling good about the results. When I woke up, I knew the dream was my mother's affirmation of my attention to style and fashion.

Pay attention to vivid, unusual dreams such as the one you described, Lyn. They are important and significant. At some level, you know your dad is proud of you, both as a successful professional and as his beautiful daughter. :)

I had a bad dream recently that all my favorite clothes were gone.  I had only one frilly fru,fru dress to wear.  Sort of like What Not to wear.  And I said I cannot wear this.  This is So not what a Urban Night Warrior would wear.  NIGHTMARE!

I used to have recurring dreams that I was looking in my closet trying to find something to wear and I discover a new, fab article and think "why don't I wear this?"  and each one I flip through is new and I get excited.  Then I would wake up and be extremely disappointed in my choices.

That was pre YLF.  Sometimes that actually happens IRL now.

I am glad I am not the only one who has dreams about meeting/chatting with other fabbers!

I write my dreams each morning (the ones I remember) so here ya go, from the archives:

    Morning of 11/17/13:
YLF contest to draw or compute an outfit for a mystery girl. I decided my drawing would be the girl on a mystery cruise. Nobody wanted others to see what they were doing. I left to get a snack and the power went out. It was a big beautiful mall. I couldn't get up the escalator with power out because you had to hoist yourself, and I wasn't able. So I went to a relaxing lawn chair to finish my sketch, and found sketchpad and pencils in my purse! I sketched a trench with black buttons, got lost in the button detail of circles. Fun!

    Great thread, Lyn!

ok, in my dreams I don't really focus on what I'm wearing, or clothes in general. Except for last night, when I had a very strange dream that starred a man who I immediately recognized as Otto Skorzeny.

I dream about stupid history stuff all the time so this isn't notable by itself--except he was crossdressing in a silver blazer with bright silver trim over a dark top, with dark skinnies and cute brown booties. I mean the body looked a bit too female to really belong to 6'4'' burly-man Skorzeny but it was his head on top, dueling scars and all. I must say he looked amazing and I would totally wear that.

Feel free to interpret that silliness. :\

I too have had some YLF dreams! The only one I can remember though is being on an escalator with Beth Ann and she was taller than me.

JulieJohn's notepad is a good idea - some of my deams are doozies.

Cool dream! It's true, your style is evolving and becoming more polished and your dad is really proud of you for all your accomplishments! (Love those dotty pumps!)

I dreamt a few days ago that Angie was coming to the Bay Area (FINALLY!) and I was extra excited that she was going to come to my house first before we went shopping! But then I started worrying that she would look at my closet and either 1) say "You have too many clothes! You don't need any more!" or 2) toss half of my clothes and get rid of all my favorites. I woke up and was relieved that Angie wasn't going to decimate my closet, but bummed I didn't get a chance to meet her! But it's so true, my closets are overstuffed and I'm having a hard time culling since I love it all! I do pass on a bunch of things to my sister regularly and did a purge just a couple of weeks ago, so maybe this is residual anxiety from that!

I feel so normal now, reading all your dreams. ;)
