WiW: 5.02 - NOW I remember why I don't wear this...

I had forgotten why this was shoved into the purgatory zone!

The lining is too small and is constricting around the legs. Good thing I don't have to so any running (hopefully) today.

Could this be a DIY project to fix up? What do you ladies think of this dress as a blouse or a tunic?

Can you add a slit to the lining?  Or sew in an extra piece?  Because it's lovely as a dress!

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

Pretty dress, flattering, and worth saving. I like the idea of cutting slits in the lining.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

I third adding slits! It is so pretty!

It's a pretty dress!  But honestly, I have never had success with this sort of thing as a DIY project.  I vote donate or take it to a tailor.

I agree with Elizabeth -- it's so pretty as a dress! Cutting it off would really cut off most of the best part of the print. I'd have to say either see if it can be altered to work better as a dress, or pass it along if it's really not working for you comfort-wise.

If the lining is only too small in the skirt, I'd just cut a slit or two in it with pinking shears. ;)

I vote trying to work a fix for the dress. I quite like it. Very different, but still in your style genre.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

I think I prefer it as a dress. I vote for slits! You look so pretty in it!

I love it as a dress! I think slits in the lining or a piece let in is the way to go.

  • LACeleste replied 10 years ago

Please keep as dress--just add mobility slits!  You really look incredible in it!

I think it's a gorgeous shape and length and I love the birds.  I echo what Diane says about trying to make it work for you as is, especially if you can just alter the lining.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

    That's a pity because my goodness - what a killer '40s frock.

  • replied 10 years ago

It is beautiful! Please keep it!

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

It's such a pretty dress!  I would also try cutting the lining.  Or just remove it altogether from the skirt part and wear a slip.

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Another vote to alter or remove the lining. Such a gorgeous dress and looks terrific on you!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Hmm, I could always just try to lose some weight in my lower half. Haha. ;)

Look at the fab pattern mixing with your phone! Unless the dress can be fixed, I vote donate.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Oh it really does look best like this! Another vote to add a slit to the lining so you can wear it more.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Very 40's! I love the pintucking, neckline, print and gathered waistline. The length of the skirt on this dress is tricky. You could have the dress shortened or have a split put in the back. I'm sorry the dress isn't so fun to wear but it is quite dreamy to look at.

I have a skirt with the same problem that narrows at the knees making running or even walking quickly a pain -- the split there needs to be higher.

  • magpie replied 10 years ago

Another vote for altering the lining.

It miiiight work as a peplum-type top, but definitely not a tunic.

  • jackiec replied 10 years ago

Try the slits! I know the feeling when this happens with lining, and it's annoying.

Your phone seems to match your dress, from my screen ;)

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

The other pain in this dress is when I sit down, the top "layer" of the dress curls back on itself to show the white lining. This generally isn't the worst of all problems in the world, but I don't really like to have my lining show if I don't have to.

I didn't have any mobility problems today (pumps or flats), so I think if I can think of a way to fix the lining issue, then I might keep for a bit. I love the sleeves :3

    Thanks for all your suggestions!!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

What about shortening the lining so that when the dress curls up it doesn't show, and then adding the slit from there?

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

I'll be on the other team. It's a great dress but somehow not my fave on you compared to other things. I vote donate.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Sorry, there is a flap that goes across the front of the dress (visible to the left in picture 2) and the whole thing kinda falls open. I don't think your fix would work, Aida, but thanks.

It looks beautiful on you... it would be great if any of the suggestions above make it work coz it is very, very pretty on you!
