WiW? Unsure if I can wear this...

One of the dresses I really liked came in the mail today and I thought of wearing it out tonight to dinner with some friends.

The problem I think is the way the material falls, especially if I wear heels: I feel like I have a little baby belly all the time. Ugh.

Any ideas? --- Aside from Tummy Tuck; the plastic surgeon said no way.

Ahh!  Too perfect.  Really elegant - and a bit sexy too.  Go for it, Lyn!  You look amazing! :)

  • replied 10 years ago

Seriously retrain your brain :) that curve is so hot. It does not look like a pregnancy belly.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

You do NOT look like you have a pregnancy belly, you silly girl! What a pretty dress :)

But I'm going to play devil's advocate here and inquire if the dress is a bit snug? Have you done the sit test?

  • Kari replied 10 years ago

Lyn, that dress is all kinds of gorgeous on you.

Please give this a read if you haven't already.

Tar har ... I dunno... *rub belly* I don't call it my pee baby for nothing.

Hmm, I don't find the dress snug, and it's actually a bit loose on top. No problems with the sit test, either. Maybe it's an issue with fabrication?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

As long as it's comfy, then I say go for it.

My guess is the fabrication coupled with the angle of your stance is making it look different than it does IRL.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

It is quite comfy and I do really like it, which is weird for this style - I thought I'd be more adventurous and try it out. :)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Hehe, Lyn, my sister and I call ours "food babies." I don't think it looks bad on you, but I know how it is. You have to decide if you will be too uncomfortable to wear it.

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

Just don't wear it around your mom. Wasn't she politely requesting a grandbaby recently? :)

Joking aside, I think you look great. But my motto is that any reservations you have about a garment usually grow after you cut the tags.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

@ Rae - Maybe I'll wear it around friends and not around people who would poke my belly and state why am I so fat.

@ Cobalt - HAHA. My mom thinks ANYTHING is a baby, she was checking my multivitamins to make sure they had enough folic acid (JUST IN CASE YOU KNOW) - hahaha, poor thing. This dress arrived without tags, so no returns! HAHAHA. :)

Wear it!  Looks tres chic on you.

  • replied 10 years ago

My pencil skirts do this to me too lyn, it's just the slim/tapered cut. It looks really nice on you if you can get over it. And if you do, tell me how to get over it because that is the one place on my body that I'm not happy about. Well the main one, anyway! I need to go read Kari's link.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Lyn you look very elegant in this. Wear it out and enjoy it!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

We are made with three dimensions, not two!  Flat is for paper dolls!

I think the dress is elegant and understated, and I love the soft addition of the red cardi.

  • Kristin L replied 10 years ago

I think the dress looks great on you!

  • Raisin replied 10 years ago

I find these type of skirt/dresses seem to hug that little curve of the belly. So if you're not comfortable in it and you think you won't wear it, no sense in keeping it. However, with all honesty I think most some have that little swell and it's very womanly and sexy looking. You do look fabulous in it!

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

Love it. Understated sexy, like a hot librarian.

  • KathyL replied 10 years ago

I think it looks great on you. I really liked Kari's article. I definitely have issues with the way my belly looks too.

  • replied 10 years ago

I think it looks good. You are a woman, women have bellies. But like Raisin said, if you are uncomfortable enough that you wouldn't wear it then send it back.. you could also try to size up or wear spanx.  Even with spanx , though it tightens things up and smooths it wouldn't change your shape.  I also noticed some puckering around the belt.  Can you loosen the belt a tiny bit?

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

I'm gonna be the nay sayer. You so don't have a food baby, but the dress doesn't hang right, it's true.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Tee hee, well, since it came without a tag and the company is very strict about having tags to return, I guess it's mine to keep. :p

Perhaps I can keep it to wear when I am pregs? HAHA.

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Hey lyn - did you wear it tonight when you went out to dinner?  I think that overall it is very elegant on you with a touch of "sexy" - but I can see some funky draping in the front that I'm wondering about if its actually there IRL?  HowEVER, since you can't return the dress even if you wanted to, I say wear it and enjoy!

  • Jeanie replied 10 years ago

It could be the fabric.  Have you tried one of those Spanx skirt slips?  I hear they are good for our belly curves but I haven't tried it yet.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Sure did! I wore it and had a blast too, and didn't really remember my belly problems :p

I have a spanx bottom, but I find that it just squishes everything else somewhere else, so I have like side bulge or some other issue. :p

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Well, it's interesting. The first pic, it falls beautifully but then not in the others. Maybe a slip instead of spanx?

A thought: what does it look like without the belt?

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Yeah!  I'm glad to hear that you wore it and didn't think about your non-existent-in-your-head-belly-problems!  :-)  You have a beautiful woman's body - and this dress really shows it off!  I say, wear the dress as much as possible and show off your curves!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

@ Rachy - it looks about the same without a belt - I tried with different ones too, skinny and elastic. I might try an obi belt.

@ Marley - Thanks! :) It was a lovely time. Dessert was cheesecake!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Oh man - you're making me hungry!

  • Jeanie replied 10 years ago

Thanks for the info on Spanx slips.  Guess I will skip that purchase...don't need no freaky side bulge :)  I am new here so don't know what a wisdom award is, but thanks!

    Glad you wore it!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Welcome to the forums, Jeanie :) The awards are recognition that we can give for your answer; I thanked you for sharing your wisdom with me. I haven't had much luck with spanx myself, but you may have a different experience :) Good luck!

  • Hil replied 10 years ago

I think you look pretty amazing in that dress and I am so glad you wore it and loved it!

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Lyn, you look gorgeous in this dress.  I never bother with Spanx, it tends to make my belly look even rounder. Don't worry about your tummy so much--it's totally normal in shape. I like Kari's link. As an apple I have to try not to obsess about my stomach too, but yours is absolutely tiny!

  • replied 10 years ago

Well I think you look gorgeous in the dress too and I'm glad you wore it. You go girl!
