WiW 7.18 - The Problem With Saving

I recently came across this dress, tags still attached, in the back of my closet in the dressy dress section.

It was one of the very first dresses I bought for myself that was "nicer": the J Crew Big Shot Dot dress. I've hung onto it for at least three years and never worn it.

It's a bit snug to get into over the shoulders (hopefully looks ok!) and I was really worried I would not fit and never get to wear it!! So wear it when it fits!!! Don't save for a rainy day!!

  • Earrings: Anthropologie
  • Dress: J. Crew
  • Belt: Joe Fresh
  • Cardigan: Ricki's
  • Watch: Bulova
  • Pumps: Naturalizer
  • Purse: Kate Spade

    Cute dress!

Looks great.  And you are so right on not saving, but it's a hard habit to break.

    Love this dress on you

Perfect summer dress...I entirely hear you about the dangers of SAVING...don't do it...

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

Thanks ladies! It's loosening up a bit right now. Was definitely a tight fit this morning. Phew.

And to think I could have been wearing it in the last few years. Ugh!

Glad it still fits, it's so cute on you.  Love the pairing with pink.

  • Glory replied 9 years ago

Very nice on you. I thought I read the problem with Shaving...yikes...morning coffee needed.

Looks very nice; wear more often!

It looks perfect and I love it with the fuchsia cardigan.  Good for you for not saving it any longer.

Looks great! Love the tan belt and shoes with the fuchsia and navy.

i can't believe you waited for 3 years to be so FAB

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

You need to give that dress some wear time!  I used to be and still am somewhat guilty of saving.  Thanks for the warning

Buy and wear now. You are so right!

Definitely! This one needs to be worn!

  • AJ replied 9 years ago

    Great motto! Lovely dress!

Do you still have that cobalt blazer? That might be a cute topper for this.

  • viva replied 9 years ago

It's so pretty! So sad that it languished for 3 years!!!

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Superb. You wear it so well.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Another reason to be on Team Wear!
This dress is totally you - why did you wait so long to wear it?

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Well I think this is a polka dot beauty! Yes, do not save things for a rainy day!

  • gardenchick replied 9 years ago

Glad it saw the light of day...looks great!

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

Thanks ladies! It was a really fun frock to wear today :)

@ Glory - haha, I can talk about my problems with shaving too... maybe in off topic!

@ AJ - That's a great idea! I think I have it in my winter closet.

@ Sveta - I think a combination of it was expensive and it is so white and it is so sharp and it has dots and what if it gets wrinkled ... and all that kinda stuff. I actually don't even know if I've ever tried it on (hahaha)... oh boy.

:| Yeah; I could have gotten a lot of wear out of it in the last three years. Oh well, no time like now to start making up for it!!!

Lyn i heard somewhere that if you dont wear a new garment within seven days you most likely wont wear it. So now i wear my new ckothes right away, like the vc lace pencil skirt.

  • Carmella Munguia replied 9 years ago

nice dress perfect :) i love polka dots too.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Fantastic dress on you! Glad you found it again!

What Karymk says is interesting. I think there is truth to that. Although with the NAS you can't wear all the stuff right away, not if it is winter stuff. I do think you probably have to WANT to wear it right away or you'll never wear it.

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

Wow, I'm glad it stretched out! I don't have any super-duper-special-occasion wear in my closet, so everything I buy, I try to wear. Otherwise, like this dress, it gets shoved off to the side and I never think about it. And sometimes even if it still fits, your style has changed, and you don't want to wear it.

Does the dress still make you happy? It looks like it is still your current style. :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

It looks great! Those dots look so summery and fresh. The snakeskin shoes are a terrific counterpoint.

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

Karymk - That's an interesting idea! I usually don't wear my clothes within 7 days of purchase because I have too much stuff!

    Carmella - I love dots!

@ Suz - I think you're excused from wearing your NAS stuff right away ;)

Gigi - The dress makes me quite happy! I think I was ahead of my time a little bit when I bought it because it would have been maybe a 75% like back then as opposed to a 95% like now!

Firecracker - I hope they work, but I'm glad you approve of the shoes :)

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Dots are a great choice for you, Lyn, now, and apparently 3 years ago!  It's terrific that this has the length you're loving now.

  • Sharon replied 9 years ago

It looks great. And completely congruent with your current style!

  • Amy replied 9 years ago

I've got two similar-story dresses in my wardrobe right now. I bought them in April 2012 while travelling in the US with the intent to wear them during my spring/summer (I'm in Australia). However I fell pregnant that September and by the time it was warm enough to wear them they didn't fit! The following spring/summer I was busy being a new mum and dresses weren't even getting a look in. I'm now counting down the weeks till spring 2014 so I can finally wear them! On the plus side I tried them on recently and they both still fit :).

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 9 years ago

I wholeheartedly agree about wearing now.  Not much is worse than finding something unworn in your closet that looks great on.  I am a total sucker for big dots and deep pinks so it is obviously right up my alley.
A great look.  I'm glad you found it.
