WiW: 1.25 - Whooo has a new neutral FFBO?

Good morning!!

I have been playing around with "basic neutrals" in the last few days (including my black and white dotty dress) and found that this FFBO formula is really helping me get dressed quickly: a neutral outfit + a quick pop of colour. I have so many cardigans and blazers, I feel that this basic outfit can just go with any of them.

Another overnight for me (owls!), and I felt a little slouchy and bleh, so I pulled out the (happy) red cardigan with the slouchy pockets.

Is it cheating to have many variations on a FFBO? Does it just become formula dressing and defeat the 100% planned out nature of a FFBO?

Thanks!

I don't think it's cheating. You always look cute and put together. My FFBO is a blazer, blouse or knit and pants. Never an "experiment", always something I've worn before that's comfortable and flattering. That's what a FFBO is, right? When I want to up the ante, I add a scarf, maybe contrast color shoes, but my basic formula is the same. Every so often I "play in my closet" and try combinations that I haven't done before, and make sure I wear them that week. If they work and feel good all day, they become a new FFBO!

Not cheating. This is your look. Milk it. Love the owls. Utterly adorable.

  • Alexandra replied 10 years ago

Not cheating. More like your signature. I love it.

So pretty!  I love your girly style.

I think variations on a favorite fallback is kind of ideal -- you know it works, but you also have enough variety that you don't get sick of it or run into laundry bottlenecks. And those owls are so cute!

It's brilliant is what is :)

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

The owls are perfect for an overnight shift! Love it.

LOVE the owls!! So much fun.

There is no such thing as cheating when you are doing call and up all night. Whatever works, works.

Newbie question - what is an FFBO?

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

Isnt' a FFBO really a formula? Yours sure works for you so keep going with it.

No problems with this outfit so far (at hour 18 or so) - and I love having the extra pockets to stuff my hands in :)

@ Retailgirl - You're right, I know 100% my FFBO will be good enough to walk out the door when I put it on!

@ Angie - Thanks! I duplicated this top because I love the owls and would be sad if anything happened to it - and I picked up the duplicate for a song.

@ Alexandra - :) I'm glad you like my "signature look"!

@ Cocolion - It keeps me young...

@ Aubergine - That reminds me to do my laundry tomorrow. Thanks!

@ Rachylou - And so are you :D

@ Carambola - I love wearing my ironic prints for overnight shifts...

    @ Suz - Even scrubs!

@ Angie_T - FFBO is Fast Fall Back Outfit ... or Favorite Fall Back Outfit :p

@ Jjsloane - Maybe the best ones are :)

You are my (literal) animal print sister. I can't get enough of the whimsical animals either! Love your outfit and the red cardigan is perfect with it.

Do you still wear your Lemon Liftoff owl blouse?

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

@ Natalie - I never owned the lemon lift off owl blouse :)

You look adorable in your "night owl" themed outfit. I think this FFBO formula is a real winner for you, so who cares if it seems like cheating?

  • Alassë replied 10 years ago

I like your blouse, belt, outfit, and FFBO! :)

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

I think the whole point of FFBOs is variation within a theme!

    The owls are so fabulous!

Angie_T, you can read a bit more about Fast Fallback Outfits here:

And lyn*: what Angie said. Your FFBOs are really working for you, I wouldn't change a thing:-)

If you have a formula that works for you, roll with it.  Mine is jeans, tall boots, a knit top and a blazer.  A scarf if the top has no turtleneck.  I've been wearing this for years.

I love your outfit - it is so exactly and perfectly your signature style, and you look beautiful :)

I haven't given much consideration to the FFBO concept - although if I need something fast and I can't come up with anything, I look at my spreadsheet of outfits past, and pick something off of there that worked well for a specific activity in the past.

I also don't think that having variations on a FFBO is cheating, or defeating any purpose!   Instead, you have a signature style that makes it easy for you to pick out a gorgeous outfit, and walk out the door without spending a lot of time agonizing and obsessing.   Which is totally the goal, right?   :D
