WiW: 04.15 - It Looked Better in My Head!

Unfortunately, I don't really consider this a winner in my books: the skirt is starting to pill a bit and I bought this top two years ago, and back then it was a pattern mixing powerhouse.

Maybe I have outgrown these pieces? I can't put a finger on it, but definitely not a favourite.

I don't think it's terrible, lyn, but I agree:  it doesn't have your usual zip!  Maybe the skirt print is not as sophisticated as others in your wardrobe now?  I quite like the polka dot top.... hmm.

Looks nice but I agree that you can do better. Maybe the skirt has too much volume.

Hmm, I think the patterns are too similar in scale. Both the plaid and the dots are fairly big / widely spaced, if that makes any sense.

It doesn't look bad lyn but I find the overall outfit quite dark.

Jules might have something with the idea of scale. Maybe a smaller plaid, or a floral mixed with one of the pieces? It occurs to me that a brighter belt, like red, might bring in another tone too.

You always look adorable, but I agree, something is not so fab about this one. The blacks feel like two different shades to me. Also, something is causing the skirt to be higher in the front.

if you're no longer in love with the pieces - bid them  farewell!! - I'm a firm believer in ditching pieces that no longer make you feel wonderful!!

What about trying the skirt with a brighter top -- yellow, raspberry or cobalt, perhaps?

I think Beth Ann is on to something...

    @ Carter - that's my belly ;)

Yes, this outfit is not as cheerful as your others or something. I think it's the skirt. I think the combination of the pattern (large plaid), color, style, and material make it feel dated to me. The top is definitely "you," though!

Maybe it's a reflection of my mood just being darker and more down - I'll make an effort tomorrow to try something more colourful.

My closet is also under renos so most of my usual stuff is packed away; maybe this is the biggest problem. I need more cheerful stuff STAT ;)

I'm wondering if it's the gathering/pleating on the neckline on the top. It doesn't quite feel current.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Hmm, I'll see what I can do about that ;)

I like the outfit and think you look gorgeous!!! Perhaps you are bored of these separates styled together? Maybe time to shake it up again? Love to see what you come up with!
