Take a Risk? ... Denim jacket for Spring!

I am hoping to get an edgy denim jacket that is cropped and will work nicely with my fit and flare dresses and skirts - I found this jacket on Modcloth... it's a moto too!

Is this too edgy for me?

It's edgy but I think you could pull this off. Very cute jacket!

This doesn't look cropped to me, though.

I love it! I think it would work for you, she's wearing it with a cute dress in the pic. But it's true, it's not very cropped, if that's what you're after. I still think it's great though.

This is cute! Would this be for casual wear (e.g., not work?) I don't see it working out in a work context for you.

I also would be wary of the length if you want cropped. It looks pretty long on the stylist, but who knows how tall she actually is...

I love it for you but agree that it might not be cropped enough. Is it fairly easy to return if it doesn't work?

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

I would pass on this and wait. You have longer hair, if I remember correctly. It will snarl and tangle in those studs I bet.

I could really see you adding denim, but to go with all of your fabulous and envy worthy (oh yes, I know where ALL the fit and flare knee length skirts are!) skirts, I would recommend a cropped and tailored denim jacket.

A moto would go with your style and add edge, but you live in the world of Daniers! Yes, more expensive, but stalk sales. Leather would look so sharp with your closet.

This jacket is cool lyn - but like someone else already said, I'm not sure that it would be appropriate if you would want to wear it to work - and, it doesn't look cropped to me. You need something that will show-off your great dresses (expecially the flare part of them!) - and if you look at the pic of the model, the jacket is hitting her at the hips, rather than the waist - and therefore, not doing anything for the dress! Does the description happen to give you a length measurement so that you can figure out if in fact it is cropped or not?

Cute. Good for you for thinking of stretching your style wings! Spikes are too much for work, studs OK, spikes nokay. Although I do have a black bag with non-pointy little spikes on it but it stays under my desk all day (or in a locker). If it is being shipped from US, I would try to find one here to try on first. It could work with your style but could also be overwhelming. Summary: Proceed with caution.

Edgy? Yes but you wear your clothing with such charm that I think it will work well.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Oh my this is a change for you. Will the spikes poke through your doctor's coat? I think it would be nice with your dresses, but it is a drastic change for you (not always bad, but...) I see you more in a faded denim vest over your fantastic dresses.

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

Ooohh, spikey! Thistle makes a good point about hair possibly getting caught in the spikes.

It isn't cropped like you want.

    I say keep looking.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

keep lookin'. I think it will have limited utility in your life.

Alright, on grounds that it is not cropped enough, I will be passing this on ... I never thought of it to wear at work; although I'd probably wear it -to- work and back to my car again! Tee hee.

I might have to save up for a leather moto via Danier; but I have a few not-leather selections that I am quite happy with - I dont' have to run inside if there is rain! :) And I don't feel nearly as guilty if I'm no longer fond of them to pass them on either!

Maybe I should just date a boy with a nice leather jacket and scheme to steal his ;)

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

When you find the perfect cropped jacket, you can bedazzle the beejeezus out of it -- spikes, studs, sequins, you name it.

I do like the moto style for you.

Never date a boy who loves his leather more than you!

Lyn....sounds crazy...but do you know where you can maybe find a denim jacket? Old Navy KIDS section. I *kid* you not...this is where I found a great white cropped jacket last year at a price of $12.99. Okay, it was not a moto style and it didn't have studs...but I'll bet they will have that this year there. If not there, then H&M. It will be cheaper and you can try in person. This one is fun but not cropped enough for dresses.

  • Charmian replied 11 years ago

I know you've made up your mind already, but I just had to chime in here that that jacket was totally not cropped enough to pair easily with the fit-and-flare dresses that I've seen you wearing. I'm totally sure that you could do it, but some days you just wanna be able to throw a jacket on without thinking about proportions, knowwhatimean?

How do you feel about distressing? Would that add "edge", or are you specifically looking for something "tough"?

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

Old Navy has a cropped denim jacket I tried on the other week -- it's really cute and quite cropped. Check it out!

  • lyn* replied 11 years ago

I found a "cropped" jean jacket at Forever 21 and it was too short for me, but I'll check out ON. I apparently have a relatively long waist (?) I guess ...

:) Will keep on looking! It doesn't have to be studs or distressed, but I thought it looked fun!

  • Charmian replied 11 years ago

I have a short waist, and 17" is wear I'd like my denim jacket to be. It's apparently a hard length to find :(

So far, I've found a few 18" jackets but haven't checked them out in person yet at Loft, AE, and Express. I haven't checked out any of them in person, but Angie featured AE's and Express's last year.

  • lyn* replied 11 years ago

I do have a cool denim jacket I used as part of my "Robin Sparkles" costume (as in How I Met Your Mother) - so I might wear that one for a bit and see if I like that length. I think it's an 18"

  • Kalli replied 11 years ago

Sooo jealous of all you Canadians and your Danier leather, was perusing their website and I'm drooling...must stop looking... Anyhow, jacket not too edgy for you. Even sweet kitties have nice claws ;)

  • lyn* replied 11 years ago

Tee hee; I live near a few Danier outlets. I might have to check it out :)

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

I like this jacket and don't think it is too edgy, but then I don't think it is cropped, either. A more cropped jacket would be edgier. I would check out the Danier outlets before you decide on purchasing this one.

  • Kalli replied 11 years ago

More inspiration for you to go to the outlet! 40% off until March 17!

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

Ralph Lauren has a moto denim jacket I've seen a few times while searching for other jackets and I had a hard time passing on it. But I have no fewer than 3 denim jackets and I wear jeans too much so I rarely wear those. I think it was under $100 - saw it at macys.com and shopstyle.com.

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

I love the shape of this jacket, and I think you could pull it off because it has a built in silhouette but I know those studs can be a bit uncomfortable. I say try it and see. Style is all about experimentation.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Well you know I love that whole juxtaposition thing so I actually think the studded jacket would look fab with your lady-like fit-n-flare dresses. But I do think this particular jacket may be too long for dresses. But I really like the idea of it.
