Definitely Returned//: The Pink Bunny PJs

I am torn about this dress :) I was hoping for your opinion!

I think it reminds me in some ways of a sleep dress because of the colour and pattern and how comfortable it is; but is it a bit much?

ETA: I calculated returning this dress. It cost me about $35 to order (I had a bunch of coupons and bonus codes to knock it down from $90); but shipping it back will cost me $20 (minimum), so I really would only benefit from $15 of store credit which is kind of pointless - so I'm willing to hack it!!! Any ideas?

ETA 2: Couldn't stand it. Returned.

I am not a big fan of the neckline. And without the jacket it is a little bit much for you, imo.

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

It's cute, but I think the sweet color combined with the print go a little too twee for my eye. Plus the bust looks like it might be pulling a bit on you.

  • Alassë replied 9 years ago

I can see why the associations...sounds like you have better stuff.

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

    And a Return it is!

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

I adore the print and think the color is good on you but am not sure about the fabric (not sure if it's pulling and seems to be wrinkle prone? ).  I'm also not sure it works as a work dress because of the print/color combo.

This seems a little saccharine to me. I think returning is a good choice.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

I totally want it to be V-neck for you.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

I don't love it on you, and I think it's the neckline too. Sounds like it's going back....

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

Hmm, there's an idea - I could totally -make- it V-neck...

  • annagybe replied 9 years ago

Um no. You want to look like you can relate with your patient, not sleep with them.
Plus for some reason the pattern looks like some soothing crap that a burnt out textile designer came up with for a breast clinic or something.

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

Haha, okay, so it's too much pink and bunnies - I calculated how much it would cost me to send back to return, and I'd end up getting maybe $10 back in a store credit.

So... I think I might convert this to a skirt? Maybe try a lower neckline? Any ideas?

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

Hmmm... For some reason I think differently than most here. I like the colour and I like the bunnies. I like it with the blazer. But then, this is purely aesthetic. I think richer colours are more "you" lyn* but I really don't see anything wrong with the colour or pattern.

The bust though - there's definitely a fit issue there. And I agree with Aida on the v neck.

  • ManidipaM replied 9 years ago

I actually like it apart from the neckline. Agree with Aida there.

  • ManidipaM replied 9 years ago

Also somehow I read this as more Alice in Wonderland than pajamas. But for you this may still be NSFW?

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

I think I'd make a skirt out of it, if you don't want to return it. Wearing it with a suitable top might tone down the pajama vibes (that I'm getting).

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

Love the print but I think you may be on to something about the color. It's not your best color. Perhaps it's the intensity of the pink combined with the other soft elements of the dress. Maybe it's too sweet, where as your style is tongue-in-cheek quirky sweet. I like it better with the black jacket the polkadots on the sleeve add to the playful vibe.

As far as changing the style of the dress I agree an open neckline might work better for you if you find the boat neck and 3/4 sleeves too confining. I personally think it's fine. What I think will really help you make this dress feel more like you is pairing it with more intense, saturated colors (black, navy, bottle green) or graphic patterns (stripes?). Use cardigans, jackets, belts and/or shoes.

I guess what I'm saying on it's own there isn't enough contrast between your skin tone and this dress which is why this seems to be a little off from your usual style.

  • missvee replied 9 years ago

Even though you're not going to get much of a credit, I would still return this. You have so many fab dresses, and even if you change the neckline, or cut it into a skirt, are you really going to reach for it when you have other, nicer choices?

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

I think that even cutting the neckline, the fit in the top will be problematic. And I think Day Vies is onto something about the color too. If returning it isn't going to work, I'd hack it into a skirt. I agree with missvee -- you have a fab dress collection and this one does not measure up.

  • Vildy replied 9 years ago

yeah, in that pattern needs to be crisper fabric to be tongue in cheek.
Don't think even black contrast piping would save it.

  • Zibbets replied 9 years ago

I think having it change is going to cost more than you'll love the finished garment. Can you take it to a consignment shop and get a little more for it? Someone out there will love it.

My second choice would be to make it into a skirt.

  • Desmo April replied 9 years ago

Is it really comfortable? What about using it as loungewear?

  • Mo replied 9 years ago

I understand those return situations when the money just isn't worth it.  I'd eBay or consign, though, to try and recoup costs that way.  (doing this right now with a sports bra from the UK that didn't fit right.)

  • LACeleste replied 9 years ago

    Hi Lyn,
I would like it as a skirt.
I can see why you liked the color---it's very pretty and I am a fan of pretty (ducking).
Does the textile designer make house calls?  I would like some soothing pillows made for a guest bedroom. ahhhhhhhhh

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

I am 100% in agreement about the neckline. I really like the pink, btw. It just spells new and different for me.

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

I could make a skirt and the top for a pillow!!!!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Sorry lyn but I'm really not feeling it for this dress. I'm not a fan of the neckline or the particular shade of pink and pattern. You have inch better dresses in your closet. I vote return.

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

I vote to consign or even to donate and let someone else get use out of the dress. I agree with missvee: Are you really going to reach for the amputated dress when you have more fab things in your closet?

Even if you send it back, you will still come out ahead. I would rather have $15 in store credit than a skirt or pillow that I am not so excited about.

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

Oh! I think it will be a super cute skirt!!!

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

I will report you to PETA if you chop up the bunnies. ;^)

  • celia replied 9 years ago

I was going to say to cut it as a skirt :)
