Colour Combos - Cognac and Cobalt? Y/N?

Last year, I had purchased a beautiful cognac leather coat (seriously best purchase almost ever - thanks Danier) - and I had to put my Kate Spade bag  away (brownish roan red) because I thought that colours clashed. I still use the bag when I do not wear the leather coat, which isn't really that often - so my poor bag gets to stay in my closet.

Now that I'm looking to purchase another bag, the one that I like is cobalt blue. What do you ladies think of the combination of cobalt and cognac?

It'd be silly of me to purchase another bag that doesn't go with my jacket! Thank you for your thoughts! :)

Do you have a picture of your cognac jacket?  I think it could work with cobalt, but I feel like cognac leather can lean a lot of different ways depending on finish/darkness.

    Sure do! :)

BIG yay from me, cobalt and cognac is a gorgeous and rich color combo.

  • rabbit replied 10 years ago

Yes I think they work!  I think the jacket would also work with bags in metallics, white, pastels, and some lighter colored brights.

    Lovely! Thanks!

:D Bit the bullet ... at $200 off, it seemed like the right time for my stalking to be over!

As a general rule, I think cobalt coordinates well with most shades of brown, and I think it would look smashing with your jacket.

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

I think it would work just fine together!

By the way, I have the Little Minka in black/white stripes and love the shape and size and have coincidentally spent a good chunk of today deciding whether to order a cobalt bag.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Haha, Aubergine - one of my staff docs has the Little Minka in black and I love that bag, so when the cobalt one went for uber clearance I had to snap it up!!!

Black and white stripes must be UBER adorable!!! :D *goes to google*

If you get the Cobalt one, we can be Bag Twins!

Lyn, the cobalt one I'm thinking of is actually this one. (I've liked it for a while and saw it just went on sale, which makes it semi-reasonable pricewise with the addition of a Nordstrom gift card I have.) I'm totally honored that I have similar bag taste as you! And the black/white Minka I have is here. It's great, especially for summer.

Looks like it will be lovely, Lyn!

Oh wow, that's a beautiful slouchy bag, Aubergine! I think it will be able to hold a lot but still be able to retain its shape - are you near a Nordies and can see if it's nice to wear on the shoulder?

    YES!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

Another suggestion to style my cobalt purse, thank you!

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Lyn, I did try it on and thought it worked well for me. Since I like hands-free bags with enough room for all my stuff, but also don't want anything that overwhelms my shortness, that's pretty hard to find. P.S. I apologize for hijacking your thread with my own bag ramblings and will stop now!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Oh no, please do - I have the answer to my question and it's so lovely to hear about your purse purchasing process (The other PPP) ;)

I sometimes wish I was a bit shorter: a lot of dresses are quite short on me :)

Yes!  I love cognac and cobalt!  Here's my cobalt blazer and cognac satchel.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

    LOVE IT!

  • harmonica replied 10 years ago

YES! I think my next bag should be cobalt

  • JAileen replied 10 years ago

I agree, cobalt and cognac definitely look good together. I have a mid brown leather jacket that I struggle with, mainly because I don't want a lot of brown leather together, such as jacket, boots, and bag. I seem to want no more than two leather items a similar color. I don't mind if the jacket is a brown wool, though. I have a leather denim blue bag that I'll use in place of a brown bag, for example. Does anyone else think this way?

  • leopardluxe replied 10 years ago

Two big thumbs up on cobalt and cognac together (also think it works well with camel and caramel colors). I say go for it and get the blue bag. It will work well as a pop of color with more neutral outfits or those using black or gray as well, imho.

Love the colours together and let us know h0ow you like the Little Minka, I have been eyeing them...like I need another handbag!!!  I think it's so cool that MaryK just happened to have a cobalt and cognac photo to show you!  I heart YLF.

I'm glad you got it! I think it will look great.

But, then again, I don't know if you can go wrong with Kate Spade purse. :)

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

@ Harmonica - Make sure to post pics if you decide to go that way! :)

@ Aileen - I think textures can offset a bunch of similar colours!

@ Leopardluxe - Thanks for giving me a few more ideas how to wear the blue bag. I was torn for the dotty bag, but my sister pointed out my outfits already have a lot of patterns and dots would just add to that instead of a pop of colour! :)

@ Nicole D - My staff doc has one and she uses hers daily for at least a year now (I've only known her for about 8 months) and it looks beautiful, holding up well. She got hers in black.

@ K - I think you may be right there!

Gorgeous bag! So glad you got it. Can't wait to see it in action.
