The Dating Capsule... Do I Need One? // UPDATE!

Dear YLF, I need your help on this one!

Do I really need a dating capsule? I usually just wear my casual capsule clothes - or whatever I was wearing to work that day. I generally don't try to dress in a particular way to make anyone happy (besides myself).

The only instance I can think of what I normally wear being inappropriate is if we do something fancy (do I need fancy clothes?) - or something super casual (I have mucky clothes too!)

It feels weird to see what clothes I have are "dating appropriate" when I just usually try to be comfortable. Is this the wrong approach?

PS: I found this beautiful blazer. I day dream about it all the time about the wonderful adventures we will go on together!

Updated - Just throwing a few looks together with StyleBook to see what I can come up with what I have :)

#3, 4 and 5 I have actually worn already - casual lunches! And #6 was for when I had to pop back to the hospital to do a dictation afterwards (no patient care).

Side note - man, that clutch is getting a lot of use!

:) Conference Looks - 7 Outfits! Opinions?

I just mixed it all up on my iPad and packed my bags - so unless there are any major changes, this is what it's gonna be :) I can pack it all in my little travel on case, so that's definitely a bonus!

1. Conference Day #1
2. Conference Day #2
3. Conference Day #3
4. Resident's Evening
5. President's Gala
6. Travel outfit #1 and lunch out with friends
7. Travel outfit #2 and dinner out with friends

Man; there's so many more outfits I can make too, in case I get bored :p Tee hee. In case I spill on myself ;)

What to wear to ... conferences?

Yay! It's time for my first conference as an MD! I have business cards all printed up (fancy) and my schedule is all highlighted and ready to go!

But what does one wear to a conference? There is one "fancy" event - a gala, on one night, and there is also a resident's event on the other evening (which is going to be kinda funny because there is only one training program and we know each other!) - I have my "fancy" event planned out.

I'm more concerned about the rest of the events. I am not doing any presentations, but I could be meeting potential supervisors and/or employers and/or colleagues.

Business casual? My usual workwear? No jeans except for going out for dinner with friends?

Thanks, wise ones :D

PS: I will also introduce my new watch! :) - Totally love it!

Custom Trench - Help Me Pick My Details! :)

So... I'm totally smitten with the chance to make my own trench coat! I've had great deal of difficulty finding a navy coat AND of a below-the-knee length for myself!

I've often played around with the Burberry Bespoke, but it was never a possibility for me.

I have a design sort of picked out (#1 to 5); but if any of the details look off, please let me know! Also, any preference on a thread colour? (#6 to #10) - I won't let you know my favourite just in case ;)

ETA: Tell me I'm crazy to spend $400 on a trench coat.

Opening an Unintentional Time Capsule - Unpacked Boxes from July

Oh dear! I cleaned up my storage bin and found out that there were a few bins marked "WINTER CLOTHES" that I hadn't unpacked yet! I was delighted to find my long-lost boots, and a bunch of clothes that I thought I had donated but was SO glad that I didn't!

"DO NOT THROW OUT. GOOD CLOTHES." I thought that this box would have the best goodies in it, because I had labelled it as 'good stuff' - but man, what was I thinking?! This stuff is totally not my style anymore - the skirts are way too short and way too twirly (and coming from me, they are VERY twirly). Some of the stuff was ridiculously finicky to put on, and looked terrible once on. This box is all donations. And there are yucky pants in this box. Seriously yucky pants.

"FOR DONATION." Somehow, this box came with me too, so I decided to root through it. Would you believe this box had THE BEST stuff? Tailored pencil skirts, for the win! Tailored A-line skirts. Yay! I can't believe this was so NOT my style only 6 months ago, and right now it totally is!!! Good thing my mom doesn't believe in donation and sent this box along.

Out of two large rubbermaid containers, I have retrieved:
1) Tailored A-line skirt - black
2) Tailored Flare skirt - black
3) Tailored Flare skirt - grey
4) Floral pencil skirt - will try to work this into the summer stuff
5) Fossil leather boots - black
6) Brown leather booties - Forever21
7) Brown leather booties - Aldo
8) Tailored sheath dress - Suzy Shier
9) Tailored sheath dress - Suzy Shier (needs cleaning. REALLY BAD.)
10) Tuxedo blazer - Rickis

Not bad for sorting out some boxes, eh?

TWIRLY SKIRTS ARE IN? GAHHHHHHH!!!

But I thought I was supposed to stay away from them! :P Just when I get into the pencil scene, it seems like Twirly Skirts are back! And Fit and Flare is everywhere in stores!

I have noticed that those skirts are usually pretty short so far...

I have looked at my twirly skirt collection and I found some I didn't like so I stuck them into the style exchange if anyone is looking for a new Twirly Skirt!

PS: Some pics of some twirly skirts in the last two years :D

Shopping Oops ... and new skirts!

I was in love with these skirts online but they were final sale - so I thought that I would bite the bullet and try them anyway! Remember how we were talking about more pencil skirts? I thought the first one was fun enough and tailored to be a balancing property.

Also; my shopping oops is I bought two of the second skirt! They changed the name of it, and I evidently thought it was super cute so I ordered a second one under a different name! (Silly me!)

But what do you ladies think?

PS: I love my dotty shell. It goes with EVERYTHING. Yay!

Just For Fun! My 20 Piece Capsule! :)

I just took a look at my favorite 20 mix/match pieces from my wardrobe and was wondering how many outfits I could make from 20 pieces! I think there are technically more outfits that I could jazz up from these, but in 15 minutes, these were the ones I came up with!

1) Cardi + Top + Bottom = 6x3x4 = 72 possible outfits (stripes and swans not included in image)

2) Blazer + Top + Bottom = 3x4x4 = 48 possible outfits

3) Turtle + Dress = 1x3 = 3 possible outfits

4) Topper + Dress = 8x4 = 32 possible outfits (cobalt blazer, yellow and black cardigan not included in image)

Total = 151 outfits without a repeat! O_o; that's crazy!

Is this how I'm supposed to use a "capsule" concept? Of course there are bound to be a few combinations that in real life don't work out - or some additional ones (ie: turtle neck under vs. over a dress to make it a skirt).

ETA: There are definitely some interesting ones that I can't wait to try - yellow cardigan + black dotty top + purple skirt = can't wait!!!!

Keep/Cull/Buy - My Closet in 50 Pieces (Long) - Goal: Flirty Tailored!

Dear YLF,

I am trying to change my fashion outlook to a quantifier of "Flirty Tailored" and as such, I defer to your expertise! I have enclosed all 50 pieces of my closet (yay; 50!) that I hope you will be able to tell me what will work for me, what won't and should be culled, and hopefully what items I still need to buy.

I am hoping to stick to a mostly monochromatic scheme for now, to maximize workability, and have colours in my accessories. These are just my winter clothes; I'll have a new post when summer rolls around :D

I don't physically own all of these pieces yet; some of them have been ordered and I am waiting for them to come. I think these things fit reasonably well, and don't think any of them need culling for that point of view.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Pre-Fall Closet Pruning! - My 51 piece current wardrobe :)

Dear YLF,

I have been expressing some boredom in my personal style, so I decided to rehaul my entire wardrobe! Luckily, since I now have a source of income, it is possible! :)

I have the following 50 pieces that see regular rotation through my closet; I was wondering if you wonderful ladies saw any glaring oversights on my part?

The things I haven't included is luggage - I have a leather satchel and a purple carry-on bag. I also have a winter parka. Various scarves and mittens and things I haven't included either!

There are some dresses that are very summery that will be placed into the 'summer' section of the closet and not used when the weather turns cooler.

I've noticed that there really isn't a unifying theme or colour ... am I going to run myself into trouble?

Thanks for your input!

Love,
Lyn
